According to the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), a group of Nigerian lawyers have spoken out against the recent spate of violent attacks in the nation, describing the current climate as a “growing culture of brazen violence” and demanding swift and clear action from the government to put an end to it.
The abduction of twenty-five students from Government Girls’ Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in Kebbi State, occurred today after armed terrorists stormed the school hostel, murdered a teacher, and engaged security personnel in a gun battle, according to a statement released today by NBA General Secretary Mobolaji Ojibara.
The group pointed out that the abductions and impunity in northern Nigeria have persisted for a long time, and this incident served as a sobering reminder of that.
An ambush in Borno State by ISWAP terrorists killed Brigadier-General M. Uba, a top military officer from Nigeria, just hours ago, according to the statement. The terrible deaths of more soldiers occurred as a result of that savage attack, which came after another orchestrated ambush in the same area.
Both attacks, according to the NBA, were part of a larger pattern of increasing terrorist activity against both people and law enforcement.
Terrorists are beginning to openly target members of the military forces in addition to innocent civilians. “No one is safe,” the NBA declared, sending a somber message.
A recent intelligence notice from the Department of State Services (DSS) was cited by the organization as further evidence of planned ISWAP assaults in the states of Ondo and Kogi, described as a “clear and present danger.”
The head of the National Basketball Association (NBA), Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, has issued a number of demands, including an immediate rescue mission for the kidnapped schoolgirls in Kebbi and an open investigation into the security breaches that allowed for the assassination of Brigadier-General Uba and his colleagues.
In addition, he demanded that the Safe Schools Initiative be fully implemented to safeguard schools in dangerous regions and that all individuals involved in supporting terrorism, whether they are part of the security apparatus or not, be prosecuted.
In his remarks, he honored Brigadier-General Uba and the soldiers who had perished protecting their children during the Kebbi raid and lauded the teacher who had died in her heroic efforts.
“Security is only one consideration. There needs to be leadership. This matters of fairness. The whole essence of our nation is at stake. When people do nothing, they are essentially helping the problem. Postponement poses a risk. “Now is the time to act,” he proclaimed.
The NBA has stated that it will not remain mute as Nigeria approaches a national catastrophe of unprecedented magnitude, reiterating its commitment.
