A 10-year-old kid who had been stuck within a well for four days was found dead by Algerian rescuers Wednesday, according to civil protection authorities.
Social media was flooded with demands to save the youngster, who officials only recognised by his first name, Ayoub. The boy’s rescue efforts had garnered national attention, according to AFP.
However, civil protection declared yesterday evening that “the child was found and recovered dead.”
After Ayoub fell down an 80-meter-deep well close to his residence in the desert municipality of Brezina in the province of El Bayadh, around 550 kilometres (340 miles) south of Algiers, teams had been attempting to get to him.
According to civil protection, the boy’s rescue was challenging because the well was just 40 cm in diameter, dry, and dug using conventional techniques.
Rescuers stated they had been having trouble getting to him because he was “trapped beneath a thick layer of soil” while the activities were still in progress.
In an effort to reach the youngster, authorities and local media posted images of heavy machinery excavating a sizable pit next to the well.
