According to reports, a commercial vehicle was hijacked along the Ogobia-Adoka route in Benue State’s Otukpo Local Government Area (LGA). The hijackers allegedly killed the driver and abducted approximately five passengers.
Locals are in a state of fear after the incident, with some calling the road “increasingly unsafe.”
The assailants ambushed the cargo-laden van, diverted it into the jungle, and then began firing on the driver, according to an anonymous local source who talked to Vanguard.
We recognized the driver from Aila, Agatu LGA, as Arrow of God, and he was shot. Following his murder, they forcibly led the five passengers into the woods. He said that no one was aware of their whereabouts.
The commercial van was allegedly completely loaded when the ambush occurred, according to him. As the assailants moved “without any resistance,” he said, the residents were still reeling from the horror.
The most recent attack occurred at a checkpoint along the same highway, less than three weeks after armed men ambushed and killed two security personnel there. Attacks occurred while the officers were conducting a stop-and-search operation.
This stretch of road is now extremely risky. He warned that more individuals could be victims of crooks unless security measures are tightened.
Mr. Maxwell Ogiri, chairman of the Otukpo Local Government Council, could not be reached.
Deputy Superintendent Udeme Edet, who is responsible for public relations for the Benue State Police, was likewise unavailable as this story was being prepared.
