Emmanuel Alabi, a student at Immaculate Conception Minor Seminary in Ivianokpodi, Estako East Local Government Area, was kidnapped on July 10, 2025, and has since been killed.
Gunmen attacked the minor seminary and took three students, Japhet Jesse, Joshua Aleobua, and the late Alabi, according to The Nation.
Jesse got away, but Aleobua got free on November 4, and Alabi was shot and killed.
People learned that Alabi was shot and killed while trying to escape after spending more than 90 days in the kidnappers’ den.
The Catholic Diocese of Auchi’s announcement, which was signed by Fr. Linus Imoedemhe, the Assistant Director of Communications, did not say how Alabi died.
Most Rev. Gabriel Dunia, the Bishop of the Diocese of Auchi, said in a statement that he was very sad and hurt by the death of the young seminarian.
It claimed that Bishop Dunia asked security services to work harder to protect the lives and property of all citizens and warned political leaders not to ignore the country’s growing insecurity.
Before the 2027 elections, Bishop Dunia told them to put the safety and health of the people ahead of their political goals.
The statement said, “The Catholic Diocese of Auchi invites all the faithful and people of goodwill to join us in praying for the repose of the soul of Emmanuel Alabi, and for the peace, healing, and security of our people and land.”
The Diocese of Auchi still believes in faith, peace, and justice. They trust in God’s endless mercy to offer solace to the family, the seminary community, and everyone else who was affected by this tragedy.
“May Emmanuel Alabi’s soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, rest in peace through God’s mercy.” Amen.
