MI6, the UK’s foreign intelligence agency, unveiled a “dark web portal” on Friday to try to recruit spies in Russia and other countries by giving them a safe way to communicate.
The CIA added that the “Silent Courier” gateway permits anyone who has access to sensitive information about terrorism or hostile intelligence activity safely contact the UK.
According to AFP, the Secret Intelligence Service’s (MI6) official YouTube account has instructions on how to get to the webpage.
Richard Moore, the outgoing head of MI6, stated to potential spies as he opened the portal, “Our virtual door is open to you.”
The spy organization, which became famous around the world because to Ian Fleming’s fictional agent James Bond, told people to use the secure Tor browser to get to the black web and to use gadgets and email accounts that aren’t related to them to avoid raising suspicions.
The advice, which was available in several languages, also said that people should use VPNs if Tor is outlawed in their country.
Foreign Minister Yvette Cooper stated, “As the world changes and the threats we face grow, we must make sure the UK is always one step ahead of our enemies.”
She stated, “Now we’re giving them the latest technology to help them so MI6 can hire new spies for the UK, both in Russia and around the world.”
Moore has said before that his organization had “recently uncovered a staggeringly reckless campaign of Russian sabotage in Europe.” This is happening as tensions rise over the crisis in Ukraine.
