Gunmen kidnap Ekiti Commissioner, kill Councillor

A councillor has been killed by gunmen who attacked and kidnapped the commissioner for Agriculture in the Ekiti State, Mr Folorunso Olabode.

Olabode, alongside the councillor, said to be from Ilejemeje local government area, and one other person were travelling in his vehicle along Isan-Iludun Road around 7.30pm on Sunday when the bandits struck.

The victim said to be travelling to his hometown, Iye Ekiti, was hit by the bullets fired at their vehicle, leading to his death.

While confirming the incident, the state commissioner of police, Mr Amba Asuquo, said that a team had been dispatched to the area and were on the trail of the abductors, with a view to securing the commissioner’s release.

Amba, who spoke through the police spokesman, Sunday Abutu, explained that Olabode and one other occupant of the vehicle were kidnapped by the criminals.

“The three persons were in the commissioner’s car when they were attacked. One person died on the spot and the other two were kidnapped.

“We have visited the scene to get on the spot information that can help us and our men are on ground combing the expansive forest to fish out the evil men and also recover the abductees,” he said.  (Leadership)
