WHO HAS THE POWER TO REMOVE AN ỌBA?
Is it the royal family?
Is it the kingmakers?
Is it the Governor?
OR IS IT THE STATE GOVERNMENT?
In Osun State, the law provides for the suspension or removal of an Ọba on recognised legal grounds.
The State Executive Council has powers to act, subject to the required legal procedure and approvals.
THERE MUST BE PROPER GROUNDS, EVIDENCE AND A FAIR HEARING.
The royal families and kingmakers have a responsibility to protect the ancestral throne and report serious wrongdoing.
AN ỌBA IS A CARETAKER, NOT THE OWNER OF THE THRONE.
If he cannot fulfil its lawful responsibilities, he should consider stepping aside honourably.
THE ỌBA MAY COME AND GO.
THE ANCESTRAL THRONE MUST CONTINUE.
