Iran’s judiciary said today that a man convicted of giving information regarding Iranian missile facilities to Israeli intelligence was executed.
“The death penalty was carried out against Hossein Pedaran, who had given information to the Mossad on missile sites in Isfahan province” in central Iran, judicial authorities announced, without explaining when he was caught or tried.
AFP said Pedaran faces accusations of “espionage and intelligence cooperation” with Israel.
His punishment was affirmed by the supreme court, the courts stated.
The matter had not been publicised in the media before.
Iranian authorities have stepped up arrests and executions in connection with both the Middle East war that erupted in February and protests around the country that reached a high in January.
In the course of the war many missile sites have been hit. The supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, died at the outset of the war.
Isfahan province, where Iran’s nuclear plants are located, has also been one of the hardest hit throughout the war.
The judiciary announced the execution in August of two men accused of having “transmitted the coordinates of sensitive military and security sites” to Israel.
Rights groups say Iran has the second highest number of executions in the world after China.
