Former governors James Ibori and Ifeanyi Okowa, Deputy Governor Monday Onyeme, Emir of Zazzau Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli and Senator Ede Dafinone, among other dignitaries, converged on Isiokolo for the traditional marriage of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s son, marking a confluence of political heavyweights, traditional rulers and business leaders in Delta State.
The popular visitors gathered the Oborevwori and Arigbodi families on Wednesday to celebrate the union of Innocent Oborevwori and Tobore Arigbodi, daughter of a notable businessman and Managing Director of Librod Energy Limited, Chief Brodericks Arigbodi.
The ceremony conducted at the Arigbodi family country residence in Ethiope East Local Government Area attracted an assortment of notable people from Delta’s political, business and traditional circles.
Notable personalities at the ceremony were former Delta governors, Chief James Ibori and Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, Senator Ede Dafinone, Emir of Zazzau, His Highness Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, CFR, Chairman of the Niger Delta Development Commission, Chiedu Ebie and Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor.
Hon. Francis Waive and other members of the Delta State House of Assembly were there alongside commissioners, local government chairmen, senior government officials and political figures.
The business community was also well represented, with famous businesspeople like Chief Victor Egukawhore, Chief Eta Enahoro, Chief Tunde Smooth, Chief Johnbull Ejovi, Chief Tony Oboroh and Chief John Oguma among the guests.
The gathering of such a cross section of political and business figures turned the traditional wedding into one of the main social occasions in Delta as previous governors and serving political office holders joined traditional institutions and business executives to celebrate the families.
The ceremony was held in line with Urhobo customs and traditions, with the two families engaging in the traditional procedures to consummate the union of their offspring.
The dignitaries were hosted by Governor Oborevwori and his wife, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, and Chief Brodericks Arigbodi and his wife and they exchanged pleasantries with the visitors.
Music, dancing and cultural exhibits were all part of the event, with Port Harcourt-based artist, Duncan Mighty, entertaining attendees with his performance.
The gathering was attended by significant persons with long established political, business and traditional links demonstrating the extensive network of relationships surrounding the Oborevwori and Arigbodi families.
As the event wound to a close, attendees offered prayers and goodwill to Innocent and Tobore, wishing the couple a peaceful, prosperous and enduring marriage.
