The Ogun State Police Command has said it has arrested six suspects and rescued two pregnant women and four toddlers at an alleged baby factory in the Mowe area of Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of the state.
This was disclosed in a statement published by the command’s deputy police public relations officer, Oluborode Opeyemi, in Abeokuta, the state capital.
“The Command has achieved a major breakthrough in the Command’s ongoing war against human trafficking and child exploitation as an intelligence-driven operation led to the smashing of an illegal “baby factory” syndicate at Abaren Village, Mowe.
‘The operation resulted in the rescue of two extremely pregnant women and four children and the arrest of six suspects,’ he said.
The police said the operation was conducted on Monday, August 24, 2026 at approximately 8:00 a.m. when operatives acting on sustained intelligence attacked the syndicate’s hideout located at Toluwalase Street, Abaren Village via Gbarinmole, a suburb of Mowe.
“Initial investigation revealed that the facility had been used over time as a base for systematic human trafficking and illegal adoption activities.
During the raid, operatives rescued two pregnant victims and four young children, two male and two female, without incident.
It further showed that intelligence-driven follow-up operations led operators to a hospital along the Mowe axis where another victim had delivered a newborn boy on August 20, 2026.
The attending nurse was arrested in the search of the infant since the newborn’s whereabouts could not be accounted for while the mother was undergoing medical treatment.
“The case is being transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for a continued diligent investigation to establish the full extent of the activities of the syndicate, locate the missing newborn and ensure the prosecution of every culpable suspect.
However, the Command assured to keep members of the general public abreast as future circumstances unfold.
The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, Bode Ojajuni, re-echoed the Command’s unflinching resolve to stamp out human trafficking, child trade and other forms of violent crime across Ogun State.
He also charged the inhabitants to be vigilant and continue to support the Police by providing timely and genuine information assuring them that the Command would continue with intelligence led policing to ensure safety and protection of all citizens.
