The Accord Party in Osun State has raised the alarm over what it described as a secret plot by compromised officers of the Osun Police Command to employ political thugs linked to the All Progressives Congress (APC) to perpetrate violent attacks on members of Governor Ademola Adeleke’s media unit and other social media promoters.
The party stated in a July 31, 2026 news release that reliable information obtained from the police command indicated that some officers, who were not comfortable with the daily exposure of their partisan and unprofessional conduct, recently debated ways to keep the Governor’s media aides away from the public space.
The party said that the officers chose to utilise APC thugs to create a smokescreen for themselves should the scheme fail.
The Accord Party also mentioned a recent attack on an Aide of the Governor, Adekunle Akinrinade, who is the S.A on Youth Parliament.
The party said he was attacked in broad daylight near the campaign office of APC in Ogooluwa area in Osogbo without even putting on any symbol of Accord, an indication that he was tailed by the thugs before the attack.
While conceding the partisan posture of the Osun Police Command, the party said it was alarming that it could contemplate injuring persons it is paid to secure only to appease specific political interests. The party denounced this as a terrible dereliction of responsibilities.
The Accord Party said the actions of the Osun Police Command, especially the latest plan, was an unprecedented failure of police in the history of Nigeria.
The statement held Police Commissioner, Mr. Ibrahim Gotan, and Mr. Lukman Afolabi (Eluku) accountable for any damage that may befall members of the Governor’s media team or any persons connected to the Adeleke government.
The party condemned the move to criminalise such relationship, noting that working for the Osun State Government under Governor Adeleke is not a crime.
The Accord Chairman in Osun State, Pastor Victor Akande who signed the statement, urged on lovers of democracy to come to their rescue and defend their rights to make democratic choices without hindrances.
