Yesterday, Monday 27 July 2026, we honour Evangelist Blackman Akeeb Kareem — the Chief Bọbajiroro of Ikún Àkókó, the Ọtunba Fiwagboye of Iyani Àkókó, and a man whose life stands as a living testimony of God’s redeeming power, transforming grace, and unwavering faithfulness. We also celebrate his beloved wife, Chief (Mrs) Grace Bosede Abike Kareem, Princess Ejalonibu of Ewu Ikanmu, Oka Akoko, Yeye Bobajiro of Ikun Akoko, and Yeye Otunba Fiwagboye of Iyani Akoko — a gracious woman who has stood beside him with dignity, devotion, and strength.
Reaching 80 years is not merely a celebration of age; it is a celebration of impact, legacy, and a journey that continues to inspire generations.
At the peak of his music career, he toured the world with his bands and released loads of hit records through the years, including classics such as “Ameboism,” “Ololufe,” “Call Me Blackman,” and many others. He was a celebrated singer, songwriter, poet, arranger, and producer — a man whose artistic brilliance earned him fame across continents.
Yet, even with all the applause, he carried a quiet longing for true peace. His story reminds us that stadiums may roar with admiration, but only Christ can fill the soul with rest. St Augustine once wrote, “Our hearts are restless until they rest in You.”
And then — the turning point. The grace of God reached for him not once, but twice: first in Lagos in 1985, and then again in London in 1997, when he finally surrendered fully to Jesus Christ.
From that moment, he became Evangelist Christman Akeeb Kareem — a man reborn, restored, and repurposed for the Kingdom. For nearly three decades, he has carried the Gospel with passion, conviction, and an unshakeable desire to “win the whole world for Jehovah God.” His testimony has touched countless lives, reminding us that no one is beyond redemption and no story is too broken for God to rewrite.
Few days ago at Southwark Cathedral, it was indeed a joy to see him again — standing tall, radiant, and full of grace — alongside his amiable wife, Chief Mrs Bosede Kareem. That moment felt like a divine reminder of how God preserves His servants. Seeing him brought warmth to my heart and gratitude to my spirit.
And as we celebrate him today, I cannot help but request that he bless us once more with his evergreen classic: “Kekere Jojolo.” A song that carries memory, meaning, and melody — a timeless gift from a timeless man.
Evangelist Kareem, at 80, you remain:
· A pillar of faith
· A voice of truth
· A bridge between generations
· A testimony of grace
· A light to the nations
May the Lord continue to strengthen you, uphold you, and surround you with peace. May your latter years overflow with joy, clarity, and divine health. And may your legacy continue to shine brightly for decades to come.
