In the UK, a coroner’s court decided that Beatrice Solomon, a 27-year-old Nigerian lady, died by suicide after experiencing mental health issues associated with personal struggles.
Beatrice, who came to the UK from Nigeria on a skilled worker visa in November 2023, was discovered at her house on Norris Road, Stanfield, unresponsive. Population density
The inquest was told her husband, Damian Butler, went home for his delivery job about 4:30 pm on the day of the incident and returned around two hours later to use the toilet where he found his wife motionless, The Sentinel reported on Sunday.

Emergency responders came shortly thereafter and Beatrice was pronounced dead at the scene at 6.21pm, PC Hinchliffe told the court.
According to the report, detectives could not find any signs of third-party involvement in her death.
Butler told the court at the hearing that his wife has battled with her mental health in the last year, which he blamed to recurring problems with Stoke-on-Trent City Council.
He also said that he later found out that Beatrice had tried to take her life on two other occasions.
A post-mortem by pathologist Dr Jones revealed she died due to a lack of oxygen.
Coroner Li Hammond-Naylor concluded Beatrice’s death was by suicide.
I think it’s apparent that Beatrice had planned and researched how to end her life. “I can only express my sincere condolences to Beatrice’s family and friends,” the coroner stated.
Beatrice, a carer in the UK, is leaving behind her husband, a son and her siblings.
The tragedy is a reminder of the emotional and mental health issues migrants may go through when they settle in a new nation.
Studies by the World Health Organisation in other nations have found that some migrants are more vulnerable to poor mental health due to factors such as separation from family, financial hardship, uncertainty, prejudice and cultural obstacles.
“The findings underscore the importance of making mental health support accessible and providing timely interventions to migrants with psychological distress,” WHO said.
