President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called for Nigerians to stay committed to the advancement of the country despite criticisms, obstacles and divergent views on governance.
“Constructive criticism is necessary for leadership and national development and it is not only welcome but it is necessary,” he said adding that public scrutiny and accountability are key components of a working democracy.
But he warned that such criticisms should not lead to despair or loss of confidence in the Nigerian mission, The Guardian said.
He said while citizens had the right to question government actions, challenge policies and demand greater performance, they must continue to trust in the potential of a stronger, more united and richer Nigeria.
He stressed that nation-building needs the joint effort of leaders and citizens and that progress is often achieved through tough decisions, debates and reforms which may not be immediately popular.
The president’s address was also a call for resilience, asking Nigerians not to be disheartened by present obstacles, but to remain involved and positive about the country’s future course.
