Govt College Ibadan shuts down
Date: Friday, 5th June 2026
Dear Parents/Guardians
Subject: Temporary Closure of the school due to Security Concerns
This is to inform you of the decision of the School Governing Board taken in consultation with security advisers, to temporarily close with immediate effect, today Friday 5th June 2026, until further notice
This difficult decision was made in response to increasing security apprehension in our area, especially over the last few days. The safety and wellbeing of your children and our staff remains our highest priority. We cannot in good conscience continue normal school operations under the present circumstances.
For Boarding Students, Parents/Guardians are kindly requested to arrange for the immediate pick-up of their wards. Our boarding staff will remain on ground to ensure a safe and orderly evacuation process. Please contact the Senior House Master for pick-up arrangements.
For Day Students, Please do not send your children to school until further notice.
Academics We understand the disruption this causes. The academic team is already working on contingency plans, including take-home assignments and possible online classes, to ensure our students do not lose significant learning time. Details will be communicated to you via the class WhatsApp groups and SMS.
We are in close contact with relevant security agencies and will monitor the situation closely. We will notify you immediately once it is safe to resume academic activities.
We deeply regret the inconvenience this may cause your family. Please be assured that this action was taken solely in the interest of protecting lives. We solicit your prayers, understanding, and cooperation during this period.
Thank you and stay safe.
Yours faithfully,
Olugbemi Oresegun (Mr)
Principal
Government College, Ibadan
