In a series of operations across the country, the NDLEA has arrested suspected drug traffickers, seized consignments of hard drugs concealed in water purifier machines imported from the Netherlands and uncovered a cache of military-grade ammunition.
Operatives found and seized three kilograms of ketamine and 199 grams of MDMA, commonly known as Ecstasy, in the water purifier devices imported from Europe, the agency said. The illegal parcels were seized at a courier firm in Lagos on May 26, 2026.
NDLEA agents in Kaduna State apprehended a couple, Musa Sunday and Mercy Sunday, and Salomi Ezekiel, 38, after recovering 100 giant bags of skunk totaling 1,246 kilogrammes from their house in the Gonin Gora area.
The agency also intercepted 380 rounds of 7.62mm military grade ammunition on the Abuja-Kaduna expressway near Jere. The defendant, Sunusi Musa, 30, was apprehended when he was reportedly conveying the ammo to Katsina State. The NDLEA said the suspect and the recovered ammunition have been turned over to the competent security agency for further investigation.
In Niger State, 457 kg of skunk were recovered during a search on a warehouse in Gidan Kukah, Bosso Local Government Area. The suspect, Godwin Zakka, 46, was later apprehended at his apartment in Gbeganu region of Minna in connection with the seizure.
In a similar development, agents of the NDLEA intercepted a commercial vehicle conveying goods from Onitsha to Taraba State on the Onitsha-Enugu expressway in Enugu State. A search of the vehicle discovered 22,000 tramadol pills, 100 ampoules of pentazocine, and 200 kilos of bromazepam. James Maigari Wisdom was apprehended, one suspect.
In addition to enforcement activities, the agency maintained its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign through sensitisation programmes in schools and communities around the country.
Awareness lectures were conducted at Government Secondary School, Adiabo, Cross River State; St Patrick’s Memorial College, Wukari, Taraba State; Roman Catholic Mission Nursery and Primary School, Ibeju Lekki, Lagos State; and Kings Secondary School, Amawbia, Anambra State, among others.
He said, “The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the NDLEA, Mohamed Buba Marwa, in commending officers involved in the operations, has also lauded personnel of the Kaduna, Niger and Enugu Commands as well as the Directorate of Operations and General Investigation (DOGI) for their successes in reducing drug supply while keeping up anti-drug advocacy across the country.
The NDLEA boss called on police across the country to be on the alert to sustain the tempo in the war against drug trafficking and abuse.
