Lagos has been exposed as a significant drug trafficking hub following a collaborative investigation by operatives of the Zone 2 Command of the Nigeria Police Force, Special Protection Unit, SPU and Divisional Police investigators.
The undercover operation resulted in the confiscation of hundreds of bags of suspected Canadian Loud worth billions of naira.
The SPU team got the intelligence and worked with Zone 2 Headquarters.
The operation was carried out with technical skill and supervision of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu and Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG Olohundare Jimoh.
The raid was conducted in an apartment on a housing development in Mende, Maryland.
Officers apprehended many people, including the accused kingpin Eke Henry Ifeanyi, 41.
Police stated the illegal chemicals were found at his home.
AIG Jimoh, who addressed journalists at the scene on Saturday, May 23, said the command had been watching the suspect for some months before his arrest on May 19.
“During the operation, the suspect offered a bribe of N500 million to the SPU Commander to make the team stand down and allow him to contact his associates to move the consignment elsewhere,” he revealed.
The offer was flatly refused, and the commander made a record of the attempt for later investigation.
AIG Jimoh said that the Special Protection Unit alongside divisional units were dispatched to secure the perimeter and prevent escape or interference with evidence.
He said the unit had months of monitoring and technical intelligence before they moved in.
