Top government leaders in Delta State have placed their weight behind initiatives to promote reading culture among young Nigerians. Media has debuted its Project ECHO Chamber at the maiden Student Literary Festival in the state.

The occasion attracted the likes of the Delta State Head of Service, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works, education stakeholders, students and literary enthusiasts. Also at the event was public affairs expert and media personality, Chief Frank Umukoro who added his voice to the drive for better literacy and intellectual engagement among youngsters.

Project ECHO Chamber LightRay! This is a place where students read and think critically and express themselves in literature, dialogue and creative writing. Media is meant to provide secure and interesting venues for that. The program is part of a larger drive to combat the decline of reading in the digital era.

Similarly, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Works encouraged partnerships between public institutions and private organizations like LightRay! to sustain such initiatives and expand their reach across the state.

In his remarks, Umukoro underlined the need for a culture of prioritising information acquisition, critical thinking and informed conversation, characterizing reading as “a gateway to empowerment and societal transformation”.

Organizers expressed optimism that Project ECHO Chamber would serve as a catalyst for a new generation of readers, writers, and thinkers in Delta State and beyond.
