An irate mob in Usen Community, Ovia South West Local Government Area of Edo State has lynched a middle-aged man known as Wale Sunday, after reportedly killing two others with a cutlass.
The event occurred after the suspect allegedly attacked and killed the two victims without provocation while under the influence of a narcotic locally known as “colos.”
According to eyewitnesses, the guy chose a sharp machete and killed the first person he saw on the street before going further to execute a second person with the same cutlass.
The suspect also used his machete to slash one Osaro Aragbala, a member of the Edo State Security Corps who sought to stop him from killing more people.
Richard Balogun, Deputy Corps Commander, Operations, Edo State Security Corps, verified the occurrence and termed it as awful and frightening.
Edo State Command Spokesperson, Eno Ikoedem, confirmed the event and said the deceased victims were promptly transported to the morgue while the injured member of the Edo State Security Corps was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
A bag belonging to the suspect was collected from the site and a material presumed to be colos was found inside it, she said.
Sources say the deceased was overpowered by members of the Corps but an irate mob overtook the Corps men and lynched the suspect, increasing the total fatalities to three.
