Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi have secured the expression of interest and nomination forms of the African Democratic Congress ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Another presidential hopeful, Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, has also obtained the form, promising to give priority to security, job creation and the growing cost of life affecting millions of Nigerians, Saturday PUNCH reports.
The National Publicity Secretary of the ADC, Bolaji Abdullahi, revealed to Saturday PUNCH on Friday that the three hopefuls had already collected the forms.
“Yes, they have gotten the forms, the three of them (Atiku, Amaechi and Hayatu-Deen),” he stated.
The presidential nomination form is N90 million.
The party’s National Organising Secretary, Chinedu Idigo, presented the form to Hayatu-Deen on Friday. The governorship aspirant said the 2027 election should be about restoring economic stability and enhancing national security.
In a statement he stated Nigerians were facing poverty and insecurity.
“Nigerians are tired living in fear. They are sick of seeing companies suffer, jobs lost and the cost of basics soar beyond the reach of ordinary people.
“This election cannot be politics as usual. It must be about securing our neighborhoods, rebuilding faith in the economy, creating jobs at scale and making living more affordable for millions of Nigerians.
“We cannot build prosperity in a climate of fear and instability. “Any strong economy is based on security,” he remarked.
The ADC has designated May 6 to May 13 for selling of expression of interest and nomination forms.
Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed the presidential and National Assembly elections for January 16, 2027, while the governorship and state House of Assembly elections will happen on February 6, 2027.
INEC also said party primaries and adjudication of associated disputes will take held from April 23 to May 30, 2026.
The Commission said campaigns for the Presidential and National Assembly elections will commence on August 19, 2026, while campaigns for the Governorship and State Assemblies would commence on September 9, 2026.
