The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike has said that the Supreme Court of Nigeria’s verdict has put an end to the lingering leadership tussles of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the party is now united.
Wike, who addressed journalists on Thursday at his Guzape, Abuja residence, said the court ruling has virtually laid to rest all allegations of factional leadership in the party.
“Today the Supreme Court has put an end to the so-called factions of the PDP. There is no faction remaining in the party. “There is only one PDP,” he stated.
The former Rivers State governor said the top court denied many challenges contesting prior judgments by lower courts, therefore maintaining what he characterized as the validity of the party’s convention and its leadership structure.
Wike also dismissed reports that the court validated the sack of the PDP National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, adding that the topic was not among the matters decided by the court.
He said the disgruntled members had failed to overturn the outcome of the party’s convention at all levels of the judiciary.
“The Supreme Court ruling has validated our convention and all claims to any parallel structure has been set aside,” he said, adding that the ruling affirmed the PDP as a cohesive political platform.
The minister emphasized the significance of following party rules and legal norms, cautioning against behaviors that can jeopardize internal processes and electoral laws.
“You are not outside the law because you have a position. “There are rules about party activities and they must be followed,” he continued.

Wike also minimized the influence of those members who left the party during the crisis, saying they had no electoral worth, while indicating that others who left due to uncertainty could return in view of the new development.
He ruled out participation in opposition coalitions ahead of future elections that do not conform to what he defined as national interest or constructive political activity.
“We are not in support of opposition for the sake of opposition. “Our approach is constructive, not destructive,” he remarked.
He ended by saying that he was certain that the PDP would remain stable and ready to play its role as a strong opposition party in Nigeria’s democracy. He described the court’s ruling as a triumph for the rule of law and internal party democracy.
