The US government has sent out a global security notice to its people in Nigeria and around the world because tensions between Washington and Tehran are increasing.
The State Department’s caution, which came out on Sunday, told Americans to stay alert after recent US military operations against Iran.
The notification says that changing security situations could affect travel plans and make them less safe, such as unexpected delays in air travel.
The caution says, “After the U.S. started fighting in Iran, Americans all over the world, but especially in the Middle East, should follow the advice in the latest security alerts from the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate.”
“They can have trouble traveling because airspace closes from time to time. The Department of State tells Americans all across the world to be more careful.
The advisory also encouraged Americans to join up for the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to get the most recent security news.
It also told people to check the “U.S. Department of State Security Updates for US Citizens” WhatsApp channel for more news.
The warning comes after US and Israeli forces worked together to hit Iranian sites. Reports say that the strikes killed Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and the head of the armed forces, Abdolrahim Mousavi.
Iranian officials and those who watch the region say that the attacks have killed more than 200 people and hurt more than 700 others.
It was also stated that many high-ranking officers in Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and other defense personnel had died.
following the assaults, President Donald Trump said that Iran’s officials had decided to talk to the US again following the bombings of several Iranian cities.
Trump said that Tehran reached out to him to talk and that he agreed to the offer.
