The four Nigerians convicted in a British court have a total prison term of 55 years for their roles in a phone-robbery ring that terrorised the London metropolitan area.
This was found in a statement that was retrieved yesterday from the website of the UK Metropolitan Police.
David Okewole, Olabiyi Obasa, Ayomide Olaribiro, and David Akintola are among the people named in the statement as prisoners.
Among the others are Laville Bloise, Mushtakim Miah, Michael Babo, Robert Hills, Nelson Joel, and James Adodo.
The group allegedly conducted thirteen separate phone robberies at various UK stores from September to November 2024, according to the statement.
Using threats of violence, the group coerced employees into opening protected stock rooms at EE stores, where they stole valuable mobile phones and other electronics. The total worth of the stolen items was £240,000.
Law enforcement officials utilized DNA evidence, call logs, and car records to connect criminals to specific crime scenes. On November 19, 2024, when the men were preparing for additional offenses, officers intervened and arrested four of them in an EE shop in Kilburn.
“Information linking the group to the robberies was strengthened when searches at addresses associated with the suspects yielded the recovery of stolen devices.”
Eight of the ten individuals taken into custody during the operation pled guilty to a conspiracy to rob on January 30, according to the statement.
They were sentenced on Friday, November 7, following their guilty plea, according to the statement.
“James Adodo of St Martins Road, Dartford, Kent, was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment,” it highlighted, highlighting one of their prison terms. Samuel Street, Woolwich resident David Akintola received a six-year and six-month prison term.
The judge handed out a six-year and ten-month prison term to Michael Babo of Gilbert Close, Woolwich. A sentence of five years and three months in jail was handed down to Robert Hills of Mayfield Road, Gravesend, Kent.
Warrior Square, Manor Park resident Ayomide Olaribiro received a four-year, six-month prison term. A three-year and three-month prison term was handed down to Nelson Joel of St Martins Road, Dartford, Kent.
Norfolk Close, Dartford, Kent’s Olabiyi Obasa received a three-year, six-month prison term. A seven-year and six-month prison term was handed down to David Okewole of Vale Road, Northfleet, Kent.
Two further suspects were punished in accordance with their guilty pleas to attempted robbery, as mentioned in the announcement.
A two-year prison term with a two-year suspension was handed down to Laville Bloise of Goldcrest Close, Thamesmead.
Also added was the sentence of eight years and six months in prison for Mushtakim Miah of Artillery Place, Woolwich.
There have been other tales of Nigerians serving prison sentences overseas, and this most recent case is only one of them.
Earlier, news broke that Chiemka Okoronta, a Nigerian postgraduate student currently residing in the UK, will be deported after serving a 10-year prison term for the rape of a teenage girl.
