The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has commenced the training of selected National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members as part of a nationwide initiative to extend National Identification Number (NIN) enrolment to all electoral wards across the country.
The programme, launched in partnership with the Ministry of Youth Development and the NYSC, supports President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to ensure that all Nigerians and legal residents are enrolled and issued NINs within the shortest time possible.
According to NIMC, over 120 million Nigerians and legal residents have already been enrolled, but the new initiative seeks to reach underserved and previously inaccessible areas through Ward Enrolment. The selected Corps members are currently undergoing intensive training ahead of the deployment.
The commission is particularly encouraging children under the age of 16 to take advantage of the proximity the ward-level rollout provides for easy access to enrolment.
Director-General of NIMC, Engr. (Dr.) Abisoye Coker-Odusote, expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for his support of the commission’s mandate. She also acknowledged the contributions of the Minister of Youth Development, Mr. Ayodele Olawande, and the NYSC Director-General, Brigadier-General Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu, for their collaboration in the initiative.
