The National Identity Management Commission has successfully enrolled and issued National Identification Numbers (NINs) to 59,786 inmates across correctional centres in Nigeria, in collaboration with the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) to ensure inclusivity, a statement by Dr. Kayode Adegoke, the Commission’s spokesman has disclosed.
He said the initiative meshes with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at enrolling all Nigerians and legal residents. So far, 74% of inmates have been enrolled and issued NINs, with the remaining inmates to be captured in the ongoing inmate exercise.
Dr. Adegoke said the management of NIMC appreciates the support of the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Comptroller-General of the Correctional Service, Mr. Nwakuche Ndidi, and the NCoS management and staff.
He noted that NIMC is set to commence ward-level enrollment across the country, a key component of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to strengthen the National Identity System.
According to the NIMC spokesman, the Commission’s DG/CEO, Engr. (Dr.) Abisoye Coker-Odusote has emphasised that the Commission aims to work with strategic partners to enrol and issue NINs to all Nigerians and legal residents in every ward, ensuring no one is left out.
