Ramadan 2024 fasting begins today

Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, the Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), has announced that the Ramadan fast will begin today.

This is stated in a statement made by Mallam Yahaya Muhammad Boyi, a member of the National Moon Sighting Committee (NMSC).

The statement read, “Yahaya Muhammad Boyi, Sarkin Malaman Sokoto, has declared Monday, March 11, 2024, as the first day of Ramadan 1445 AH, according to the Sultanate Council of Sokoto.”

The nation’s Muslims were urged by the Sultan on Friday to observe Ramadan this year after sunset on Sunday, March 10, which is equivalent to the 29th day of Sha’aban, 1445 AH.

In a statement, Deputy Secretary General of the NSCIA Prof. Salisu Shehu urged the Nigerian Muslim Ummah to look for the crescent of Ramadan 1445 AH immediately after sunset on Sunday, 10th March 2024 which is equivalent to 29th Sha’aban 1445 AH.
