Prior to the Supreme Court’s decision in the Kano governorship contest, former state governor Malam Ibrahim Shekarau has urged both Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, the incumbent governor, and Alhaji Nasiru Gawuna Yusuf, his opponent, to accept the decision of the highest court, regardless of whether it benefits them.

According to the Nigerian Tribune, the former governor also counselled the Supreme Court to make fair and just decisions because God would judge them according to their deeds as judges.

“We have faith that the judges will make the correct decision. Recognise that they are only human if they make mistakes.

However, Malam Shekarau, the advisor in Kano, revealed that Mr. Yusuf and Mr. Gawuna needed to comprehend that power is granted by Allah to whoever He pleases.

He did, however, add that while he expected the court to uphold justice, the public should remember that judges are also people.

“In his boundless kindness, God bestows authority on anyone he pleases, irrespective of their religion, tribe, or any other factor. The positive and negative.

“I am optimistic and ask Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna and Abba Kabir Yusuf to consider this as a prayer. They ought to pray to God for what is best for them. If it does not fit them well, they ought to ask God to alter it for the better.

“I would advise the person who lost not to take offence and hold others accountable for what happened to them.

He should pray to God to change it to what is best for him.

“May Allah choose leaders for Kano that will be of benefit to the people and the state. This is what we are praying for. He alone knows who to give and we are hopeful that he will answer our prayers.

“The issue of this is who we want; one that can deliver or not is not the case although it’s the way humans choose and express themselves from their desires.

“Even the judges, work with what is presented to them and the Holy Prophet has told us that the judge when delivering a judgement has a reward either way. When he does justice he gets two rewards and when he does otherwise he gets a single reward.”
