On Sunday, Obi of Onitsha Igwe Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe praised Globacom for their continued sponsorship of the Ofala Festival in Onitsha since 2011.

The monarch mentioned his partnership with Globacom over the years while speaking to his subjects and guests at his palace in Onitsha, Anambra State.

“Despite the current economic challenges, our primary partner, Globecom, has remained committed to working with us. We appreciate them tremendously, and I have every confidence that our fruitful collaboration will continue to flourish,” Igwe Achebe said.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between the palace and the company that began sponsoring Ofala in 2011 last year, extending the partnership for another three years, from 2022 to 2025.

On the same day as the festival, Globacom’s Retail Sales Chief for the South East and South South, Augustine-ndu Offor, spoke about the company’s dedication to empowering Nigerians through its sponsorship of Ofala and other major festivals across the country.

The sustained funding of cultural festivals like Ofala has increased the region’s economic value through the growth of tourism. He went on to say that the launch of Globacom’s subsidiary MoneyMaster Payment Service Bank (MMPSB) this year was in keeping with the company’s vision of empowering its customers. Through its G kala wallet, MMPSB gives those without bank accounts the ability to send, save, collect, and deposit funds from their mobile phones. G Kala’s savings account interest rate of 8% per year is a good example of the value added to customers by the company.

Attending Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, praised the efforts of Igwe Achebe, the people of Onitsha, and the festival’s sponsors, saying that the festival would complement the government’s efforts to bring development to the state.
