In order to protect schools from attacks by bandits and other criminal elements, Ahmed Audi, the Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), has ordered the immediate deployment of undercover security agents to schools and host communities in the North-West zone and other parts of the country.

To achieve the goal of making schools across the country safer, the Commandant reportedly told undercover agents to collaborate with state education departments and other interested parties.

The directive came on Friday, during the closing ceremony for the Kaduna State government’s capacity building programme for safe schools response team.

National Safe Schools Response Coordination Centre staff, local vigilantes, and other stakeholders from the seven states in the North-West geopolitical zone gathered together for a five-day special training programme as part of the safe schools initiative.

This is in light of the fact that attacks and violence against schools are all too common in the country’s north, with devastating consequences for both the affected institutions and the surrounding communities (such as an alarming rise in the number of children who aren’t in school).

An overview of the intelligence gathering mechanism, early warning and response mechanism, and schools declaration guideline are all covered during this training.

The goal of the National Strategic Plan on Safe Schools Initiative is to increase collaboration, coordination, and cooperation between various security agencies.

The government of Kaduna state, which has been struggling with the threat of terrorists and bandits, has said it is open to any partnership that will help bring about security and peace in the state.

To better protect schools in vulnerable communities from attacks by bandits and terrorists, the national Safe Schools Response Coordination Centre has implemented a series of trainings, including a capacity building programme.
