President Bola Tinubu Takes Historic Step in Assenting to Constitutional Amendment Bill
In a significant milestone, President Bola Tinubu enacted his first act of assenting to a bill on Thursday, as he affixed his signature to the Fifth Alteration (No.37) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999.
The bill, which was presented by the outgoing 9th National Assembly, received the President’s assent in accordance with the powers bestowed upon him by the amended 1999 Constitution.
This bill marks a fresh amendment to the Constitution, specifically addressing the retirement age and pension rights of judicial officers, as well as other associated matters.
By signing the Constitutional Amendment Bill into law, President Tinubu has effectively brought about uniformity in these areas.
In a statement released by Abiodun Oladunjoye, the Director of Information, President Tinubu expressed his administration’s unwavering commitment to fortifying the judiciary, upholding the rule of law, and empowering judicial officers to carry out their responsibilities with utmost efficacy.
This signifies a concerted effort to enhance the judicial system and ensure its efficient functioning under President Tinubu’s leadership.
