Rivers: APC is going up against INEC and the police – Amaechi

Rotimi Amaechi, a former Transportation Minister, has stated that the All Progressives Congress in Rivers State is not competing against the Peoples Democratic Party, but rather against the Independent National Electoral Commission and the Police.

Amaechi stated this to journalists after casting his vote in Ward 8, Unit 17 of the state’s Ubima Ikwerre Local Government Area.

He also stated that he and others had objected to the reappointment of INEC National Chairman, Yakubu Mahmood, revealing that the latter had been recommended for reappointment by someone in the camp of the president-elect, Bola Tinubu.

He stated that under such circumstances, success in the election is unlikely.

“Some of us were opposed to Mohmood’s reappointment. Tinubu’s camp is the one who nominated him. So, what are you hoping for? Success?

“Here in Rivers State, Mahmood Yakubu Mamood served as Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund under Wike.

“So, in Rivers State, the APC, SDP, and others are contesting elections not against the PDP, but against INEC and the police.”
