Attack By Military On Bandits’ Laid-Back In Niger “Kills Scores” In Airstrikes

The Nigerian Air Force has launched a major offensive against bandits, killing “scores” of them in multiple airstrikes on their hideout, barely 24 hours after gunmen ambushed and killed a major and four soldiers in Igu village, Munya Local Government Area (LGA), of Niger State.

On Friday afternoon, when the bandits were allegedly regrouping following the murder of the major and the other four soldiers, airstrikes were conducted on the bandits’ hideout in Camace in Kazai Ward and Tsohon Kabula village, all in the Munya LGA of the state.

Four local vigilantes were also killed in the bandits’ ambush, while several others, including some soldiers, were hurt and are reportedly receiving medical care at a government hospital in Minna, the state capital.

A source close to Kamace village told our phone reporter that during the military assault on the bandits, about 20 of those earlier abducted from the Adunu and Beni communities managed to escape to freedom.

Despite the fact that the bandits were bombed in two different places, our source claimed that only seven of the 35 motorcycles the bandits were riding that were spotted in the bush and each carrying three people managed to escape.

According to him, the first group of bandits that the airstrike hit were attempting to take cover at Kamace Primary School when they were struck, killing over 30 of them and completely destroying their motorcycles.

Further, he revealed that the second group, which the airstrike killed, had actually arrived to remove the bodies of their colleague, unaware that the fighter jet had not yet left the area when an unknown number of them were neutralized.

The bandits are now in disarray and scurrying for safety, according to our source, who also stated that “some of them were running towards pole wires, Kudami in Kafin Koro, Paikoro local government area, and Rijana forest in Kaduna State.” This is due to the heavy casualties sustained from the bombardment.

Mr. Emmanuel Umar, the state’s commissioner for internal security and humanitarian affairs, confirmed the air raid when contacted but would not elaborate.
