A former presidential aide, Chief Akachukwu Nwankpo, has emerged the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Party (ADC) for the Nov. 6 governorship election in the state.

He was nominated through a unanimous ‘yes’ votes in a direct congress  of no fewer than 7, 351 delegates from the 326 electoral wards in the state.

Announcing Nwankpo’s nomination, Chief Anayo Okoli, Chairman of ADC Congress Panel said the candidate satisfied all the provisions of electoral guidelines of the electoral act.

Okoli said ADC was presenting Nwankpo to Anambra people as a man who would redefine leadership in the state and called on electorate to vote him massively in November.

In his acceptance speech, Nwankpo who failed in his bid to contest the election on the platform of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) said no man nor woman could determine the fate of anybody against the will of God.

He decried the role of money in politics and promised to bring sanity to public administration if elected, while urging Anambra electorate not to allow any politician to buy their conscience.

Nwankpo vowed to protect lives and property of Anambra residents and restore the pride of his people anywhere in Nigeria

“Under my watch, I will not tolerate anybody coming here to kill innocent citizen and go Scot free, I will ensure security of all and restore the dignity of Igbo man in Nigeria.

“We will continue to respect and love our neighbours, my people will no longer live as if nobody cares for them, anybody who kills anybody here will be pursued and brought to book.

“Look at the joke our elections have become, they allow big men to take over the entire space, we shall march the street and recover our state,” he said.

On his part, Chief Okey Nwosu, National Chairman of the ADC, said the time for a assured second term for governors was over as only the people would determine who deserves reelection.

Nwosu said ADC would ensure that no governor installs his successor anymore by ensuring that the people’s votes count in the coming election and that public funds are no longer converted for personal use.

He said the party would ensure that democracy is entrenched at the grassroots by ending usurpation of the local government system and arbitrary appointment of council chairmen.

He called on the electorate to vote ADC’s Nwankpo and enjoy the pan-African and global vision of the party in terms of commerce, tourism, healthcare, innovation and excellence which the candidate had adopted. (NAN)
