Police Service Commission meets to pick new DIGs and AIGs

Except in the event of a last-minute postponement, the Police Service Commission (PSC) will meet in Abuja today, January 27, 2021, to select three Deputy Inspectors-General of Police (DIGs) and 10 Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs) set to join outgoing Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Mohammed Adamu on the way out of the Force.

The impending vacancies are informed by the imminent retirement of DIG Michael Ogbizi (representing South-South), DIG Aminchi Baraya (representing North-East) and DIG Adeleye Oyabade (representing South-West).

The 10 retiring Police AIGs are: AIG Hosea Karma (retired since January 8, 2021), AIG Ibrahim Larmode, AIG Mohammad Mustapha, AIG Nkpa Inakwu, AIG Jona Jackson Mava, AIG Olushola Babajide, AIG Yunana Babas, AIG Asuquo Amba, AIG Nkereuwem Akpan and AIG Ola Adenira Adeoye.

For the purpose of their replacement, the PSC chaired by Retired IGP Musiliu Smith has scheduled an emergency meeting for today.

The main item on the agenda of the emergency meeting, according to sources, is the promotion of a new set of senior police officers to fill the vacancies to be created by the statutory retirement of outgoing IGP Adamu, who will retire next Monday, February 1, 2021 as well as three DIGs and 10 AIGs who are part of the Nigeria Police Management Team chaired by the outgoing IGP and will be retiring same date with IGP Adamu, having joined the NPF same date on February 1, 1986.

So who will make the next set of DIGs and AIGs? Well, let’s wait for Retired IGP Musiliu Smith and other henchmen of the Police Service Commission to decide.
