It was a season of joy for the family of Master Ifeanyi Umoke who was thrown into fire few months ago for attempting to steal rice in Effium community, Ohaukwu local government Area of Ebonyi State, as he joins other indigent persons in South East to receive cash gifts from Ohanaeze Ndigbo in UK and Northern Ireland.
According Dr. Nnanna Igwe, leader of the group, while condemning the ill treatment melted on the young boy by Effium people, said the cash donation of six hundred thousand Naira (600.000.00) to the three indigent persons in South East, was to mark virtual World Igbo Day London 2020.
He then commended Human Right Defenders Foundation (HURIDE) Ebonyi State chapter for its selfless activities in protecting lives and properties of the indigent persons in the state.
According to him, exposing the deadly act melted on the boy has saved his life.
His words “We have decided to help some indigent people back home in Igboland as part of our Virtual World Igbo Day London 2020. We selected three persons with serious challenges to be assisted with two hundred thousand naira each, totalling six hundred thousand naira (N600,000.00). This money was raised from donations from our wonderful members in support of our programme.”
“We, the Igbo organisation in UK are so pleased with the selfless activities of HURIDE in Ebonyi State and has, in confidence, decided to make a cash donation to them.
“Among the chosen beneficiaries, is that 13-year-old boy from Inikiri Benard, Ezza Effium, Ohaukwu LGA , Ebonyi State, thrown into fire with severe burns and has no body to assist him.
“Another beneficiary is a new born baby without abdominal covering who had successful surgery at Nnamdi Azikiwe Teaching Hospital, Nnewi. The poor father, Mr Mba-Ichite from Umuekwule Community, Umuahia North LGA , Abia State couldn’t afford the cost of treatment. The third beneficiary is an Elderly woman, Madam Clara Iwuchukwu, living in a poor and open thatched house in Umuchu-1, Ikeduru, Imo State.”
On his part, the chairman, HURIDE, Sampson Nweke, commended the humanitarian gesture of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo UK and urged other good willing Igbo sons and daughters and Nigerians to toe the path in contributing towards transforming the live of the little poor boy who have been in severe pains since the incident.
