Kidnappers arrested in Rivers for beheading five vigilantes
Respite may have come for residents of Rumuodogbo Community in Emohua, Local Government Area of Rivers State with the arrest of three members of a notorious kidnapping gang terrorising the city of Port Harcourt and environ communities.
The trio were recently arrested by police operatives of the Force Intelligence Response Team (IRT).
The suspects, Uzoma Amandi, Uburize Omesi and Onyekachi Amadi, who were also identified as members of the notorious Icelander cult group, terrorising residents of Rivers State and its environs were arrested after they killed and beheaded five members of a local vigilante outfit, known as OSPAC, and displayed their corpses on the social media.
It was gathered that the members of the gang who operate with two pump action guns and an Ak-47 rifle loaded with four magazines and 120 rounds of live ammunition, often kidnap their victims from Port Harcourt city and take them to their camp in Chuba area of the state, where they are kept for days while ransom is demanded from their family.
Police sources disclosed that the Inspector General of Police (IGP) was alerted to the gang’s activities in October 2020, after five members of OSPAC vigilante outfit were killed and beheaded.
The source explained that operatives of the IRT, headed by Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, were deployed to investigate and track down members of the gang.
When the IRT operatives commenced investigations, it was discovered that members of the kidnap and cultist group terrorizing the Rumuodgbo community were natives of the community with their base in Aba, Abia State.
It was also discovered that the gang members regularly visited Port Harcourt and Rumuodgbo community for their criminal activities, during which they carried out their kidnapping and cult related activities. (Daily Independent)
