Some stalwarts of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have started scheming for the office of the party’s national chairman and other top positions ahead of the party’s national convention.

Our correspondent gathered from sources at the party’s National Secretariat Abuja that a date for the convention is yet to be fixed.

One of the aspirants confirmed that he would contest the chairmanship, but sought not to be mentioned saying, “I will make my ambition public soon.”

Former governors of Gombe and Cross River states as well as a former commissioner in Rivers State were consulting various stakeholders for the chairmanship contest.

Two top politicians from Bauchi and Kaduna states were also said to be scheming for the National Working Committee (NWC) top job.

The APC National Working Committee (NWC) was dissolved in June this year, by the National Executive Committee (NEC) which is the second-highest decision-making organ of the party.

Sequel to that, a 13-member National Caretaker/Extra-Ordinary National Convention Planning Committee led by Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State was constituted for the day-to-day running of the party’s affairs.

The interim panel was also mandated to, within six months, organise a national convention where a new crop of NWC officials would emerge. (Daily Trust)
