US: Four people tested positive for COVID-19 at Republican National Convention

Four people at the Republican National Convention (RNC) in Charlotte, North Carolina have tested positive for COVID-19.

Two attendees and two staffers at the convention have tested positive for the virus, Mecklenburg County officials said in a statement on Thursday.

“These individuals were immediately issued isolation instructions and any known close contacts were notified and issued quarantine instructions by Mecklenburg County Public Health,” the statement said.

It added that approximately 792 COVID-19 tests were conducted among individuals attending or providing support at the convention.

“Additional details about the RNC Meeting will be included in the official After Action Report, unless there is a recognized threat to the public’s health,” read the statement.

Nearly 25,000 coronavirus cases and 290 deaths had been recorded in Mecklenburg County by Thursday.   (Anadolu Agency)
