The Ogun 1 Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has intercepted contrabands with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N2.47 billion including a 2026 Range Rover Sport Autobiography P530 worth N417.01 million.
Deputy Comptroller Oladapo Afeni, the Acting Area Controller, made this known on Thursday at a press briefing at the command’s headquarters in Idiroko, Ogun State.
The seizures were made through intelligence-led operations, intensified border surveillance and inter-agency collaboration from August 14 to September 17, 2026, Afeni added.
The seized materials included 1204 bags of foreign parboiled rice, 3893 packets of cannabis indica weighing 1.878 tonnes, 428 pneumatic tyres, 8675 litres of Premium Motor Spirit, 24 bales of second hand apparel, four sacks of used shoes and 500 litres of diesel.
The capture of the Range Rover was a significant highlight of the investigation, Afeni said, adding she was worried someone could buy such a car and still try to circumvent customs fees.
“You can imagine someone could have the money to buy this and skip the dues,” he remarked.
Afeni said the total DPV of all the seizures was N2,469,153,523.68, a figure that showed the command’s unwavering zero-tolerance attitude on border economic sabotage.
The command also handed over the 3,893 packets of cannabis sativa to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Idiroko Special Command, for further examination.
The NDLEA Idiroko Commander, Oluwafemi Akande, who received the narcotics, said the agency has vowed to make the border corridor a no-go area for drug traffickers.
“We have made Idiroko no-go area, no passage for drugs,” stated Akande.
Afeni said the achievements were made possible by the commitment of the command’s officers and men and the cooperation of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi and his management team.
The perpetrators of economic sabotage warned that the command would remain a hostile zone for uncustomed goods and illicit trade.
