The National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Yunusa Tanko, says Nigerians will hold the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, responsible after the 2027 general elections and not the former Vise President Atiku Abubakar or the Labour Party’s Peter Obi.
The Saturday Independent said that Wike had said he would be the first politician to face the music if Atiku of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) or Obi of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) defeated President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
However, speaking in a conversation with our correspondent, Tanko said Wike should ready to answer to the Nigerian people over his alleged role in electoral rigging.
“For me, it is the Nigerian people that will go after Wike in 2027 and not Atiku or Obi. The truth is that he has gotten himself so negatively embroiled in the dishonest electoral methods and manipulation of Nigeria. “He is one of those threatening our democracy,” Tanko remarked.
He accused the minister of the FCT of publicly saying he could influence the outcome of elections in favour of the ruling party.
Tanko specifically mentioned Wike’s recent comment that President Tinubu would have dispatched him to Osun State if he wanted to win the governorship race there.
“This is a man that came out boldly and said that if President Tinubu wanted to win election in Osun State, he would have sent him there,” he remarked.
“What he is saying in effect is that if the president allowed him, he would have disenfranchised the people of Osun and rigged them out. He is also claiming that he can rig all kinds of elections in favour of the party he supports.
That’s un-democratic.”
The Obidient Movement, Tanko added, was still committed to ensuring Nigerians freely chose their leaders through genuine elections.
“We on our part believe in a free, fair and credible election where the voice of the people matters, their votes count and their will prevails,” he said.
He said, “So, Wike should get ready to rig the 2027 general elections. “It is the Nigerian people that will come after him and make him a casualty, not Atiku or Peter Obi,” he said.
