Mrs Adonkie, wife of Brigadier General Basil Adonkie (rtd), was kidnaped from her apartment in Abuja, but was freed hours later by troops of the Guards Brigade, Nigerian Army.
The Brigade announced this in a special situation report made available yesterday, Daily Trust says.
The report said Mrs Adonkie was taken around 10.30 pm on September 1 and troops were deployed in a coordinated chase of the kidnappers.
The report said the Brigade and Army Headquarters Garrison forces moved through ACO Estate and Gosa Community and made contact with the kidnappers.
It said forces successfully rescued the victim around Angwan-Sabo Village while another team continued with the pursuit of the fleeing captors.
“About 11:09 a.m. on Wednesday, troops of the 176 Guards Battalion and 197 Special Forces Battalion intercepted two suspects on the run around Gaube Village in Kuje Area Council.
The suspects were also found with one AK-47 gun and a magazine with 19 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition, collected by the troops.
The guards brigade said the rescued victim had been reunited with her family, while the two apprehended suspects were in custody for questioning.
It claimed that further exploitation was in progress to identify and apprehend other members of the kidnap syndicate.
Troops had boosted operations in the area to hunt down the fleeing offenders and their morale and fighting efficiency remained high, the report said.
