Mikel Arteta has had tough talks with attackers Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus with both Brazilian internationals about to leave Arsenal.
“At some point you need to have certain discussions and say certain things that sometimes are tough, it’s inevitable,” added Arteta.
AFP claims Martinelli left training early yesterday amid suspicions he is ready for a move to Saudi side Al Hilal for a cost that may reportedly soar to £50 million ($68 million).
“I think everyone knows and appreciates how much we love Gabi (Martinelli). “It will be because everyone agrees to that, no matter what the outcome is,” continued Arteta.
Jesus has dropped way down the pecking order at a time in north London hit by injuries and was not even involved in training on Thursday as he enters the final 12 months of his contract.
“It’s something to do with the numbers that we have in the squad at the moment and the way we’re managing that kind of situation individually with all the players — they have some personal situations,” Arteta said of the ex-Manchester City striker.
Arsenal are reportedly keen on signing Atletico Madrid’s Julian Alvarez as they look to bolster their attack.
The Argentine is in a bitter stand-off after Atletico refused to allow him to leave the Spanish capital for Barcelona.
“Don’t go there,” remarked Arteta when asked about Arsenal’s interest in Alvarez.
“I will not say anything about any player that is not here.
Ezri Konsa is an Arsenal player who might make his debut back at Villa Park on Monday after a £51m switch from Aston Villa.
Arteta claimed Konsa might get a cold reaction but that would not affect his choice to thrust the England international into the action.
“If I see something different in the player then maybe I have a question about that, but the way I’ve seen Ezri since day one, knowing his personality really well and through people that have worked with him, I have no concern there.”
Bruno Guimaraes could possibly be available to make his first competitive game for Arsenal after missing the 3-0 win over Coventry last weekend with a groin injury.
