Benjamin Kuti popularly known as the Oluomo of Derby, founder of the community of Nigerians in the United Kingdom, said that popular Nigerian dancer and socialite, Iweh Odinaka, aka Poco Lee, currently on remand in the United Kingdom, is expected to appear before a London court in September over an alleged assault offence.
The PUNCH gathered that Kuti, who confirmed the development in a meeting with our correspondent today, said, “Poco Lee is currently in a UK prison and will be taken before the Snaresbrook Crown Court on September 15, 2026, at exactly 10 am.”
Kuti claimed he was aware of the occurrence as he attends court proceedings regularly and assists Nigerians in legal situations in the UK.
I can confirm the reports are correct. Lee is currently on remand in a UK jail. His next court date is in the second week of September when he is scheduled to have a plea hearing,” he said.
“In a typical plea hearing, the defendant will enter a plea of guilty or not guilty,” he said.
Kuti said he planned to attend the trial as a sign of solidarity with members of the Nigerian community in the UK.
I will also be there at the court proceedings to support the Nigerian community in the UK to ensure that our Nigerian brother gets the help he needs at this horrible chapter of his life.
“It’s important that we allow the legal process to play out. In the court all are guilty until proven innocent. “His hearing will be at Snaresbrook Crown Court at exactly 10am on 15 September 2026,” said Kuti to the court.
Rumours of Poco Lee’s alleged arrest in the UK first started making the rounds online on August 19.
However, early reports did not name the alleged complainant, the circumstances of the alleged offence or whether formal charges had been brought. Several sources said UK police or a court did not independently confirm the arrest either.
An email sent to the court to confirm the details of the trial had not been responded at the time of writing.
