Tottenham Hotspur have agreed a deal with Manchester City for Brazilian winger Savinho worth up to £85m.
An initial £75 million will be paid by the north London club, with a further £10 million in possible add-ons, as they get a player they had chased for over a year.
The 22-year-old is now set to undergo a physical and pen a long-term contract with Spurs.
It concludes a long search for Savinho, who elected to remain at the Etihad Stadium last summer but failed to earn regular first-team game time under Pep Guardiola, with just seven starts in the Premier League last season.
Manchester City head Enzo Maresca acknowledged the player’s wish to go, saying: “He has asked me that he wants to leave from day one”.
It will be a club record sale for City, eclipsing the £82m they received for Julian Alvarez when he moved to Atletico Madrid.
The signing of Savinho would take Tottenham’s summer expenditure above £300 million after Sandro Tonali and Fernandes Mateus joined.
Roberto De Zerbi, the head coach, has been promised attacking reinforcements and with numerous forwards sidelined, Savinho is set to slot right into the starting line-up for Saturday’s Premier League opener at Brentford.
And the club might not be done there, with reports suggesting discussions are moving in a positive direction for City teammate Omar Marmoush.
Spurs are counting on the form he exhibited during a breakout loan spell at Girona despite scoring just twice in the Premier League in 53 games during his tenure at Manchester City.
While at Girona he led La Liga for successful take-ons and progressive carries, displaying the pace and dribbling abilities that made him one of the most dangerous wingers in Europe.
Omitted from the World Cup roster, the Brazilian international will be trying to resurrect his career and reach his potential under De Zerbi in north London.
