The police command in the state has declared Dauda Olamilekan, alias Emir, and four others wanted in a move to prevent political violence ahead of the 2026 Osun State governorship election.
Those proclaimed wanted include people involved for killing, maiming and assaulting inhabitants of the state, reports The Nation. The Command in a statement published yesterday by its spokesperson, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, stated.
“Dauda Olamilekan aka Emir, one Taoreed aka Small Rugged, Adetunji Kamoru Olatunde, Saka Afees (Terror) and Adeyemi Saheed wanted for various offences.
“The command, following a meticulous intelligence-led investigation, identified these arrowheads who are responsible for the increasing spate of the political violence and thuggery activities.
The media and greater community are being implored to employ every available means to tell these identified arrowheads to report to the Osun State Police Command.
“We are also on their trail for arrest and they will be made to face the law.
The Nation recalls that political tension has been on the increase in Osun since June when several individuals including a youngster in Ilobu, Olapade Ezekiel have been killed.
Others killed in the period include Comrade Abdullateef Olamilekan, 70-year-old Kazeem Akande in Osogbo, Ajayi Aderogba in Esa-Oke and one Eluyera in Ikire.
NURTW rejects suspension order by govt, inaugurates caretaker committee
The National leadership of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) has rejected the suspension of the activities of the union by the Osun State government, saying that Governor Ademola Adeleke does not have constitutional powers to stop its operations.
The union also set up a seven-member caretaker committee to manage its business in Osun State till the leadership crisis rocking the state chapter is resolved.
A caretaker committee led by Kazeem Oyewale, alias Asiri Eniba, was yesterday inaugurated at the national headquarters of the union in Garki, Abuja.
The incident is coming days after the Osun State government had stopped the activities of the NURTW in vehicle parks across the state after violent skirmishes between different factions of the union.
The state government, through the Commissioner for Information, Kolapo Alimi, said the suspension was to restore order and strengthen public security.
It also stopped the collecting of levies at automobile parks and ordered security services to arrest anybody portraying himself as an official or executive of the union.
The action was ignited by a violent clash in Osogbo after members of a section led by Oyewale protested against the leadership of the state NURTW Chairman, Nurudeen Alowonle. Later, the protests turned violent with locals panicking as shooting was heard.
Reacting to the news, the national president of the NURTW, Musiliu Akinsanya, commonly known as MC Oluomo, said no state government has the right to halt the activities of the union by law.
Speaking through the union’s Deputy National President, Aliyu Ore, Akinsanya said the NURTW was created by an Act of law and had before achieved positive court judgements against similar moves by state governments.
We didn’t have the leadership of our union in Osun in the last few months remember. We heard that they are on the run, though they called and wrote a series of letters inviting our leadership in Osun, which they failed to honour.
“We could not leave the union’s activities without leadership on the ground. We heard today that the state governor in Osun suspended the activities of our union, which they have no powers to do.
“No state governor can suspend the activities of the union because we are not under any state government. There is an Act that founded the NURTW,” Ore said.
He said the inauguration of the caretaker committee became important to offer effective leadership for the union in Osun State especially ahead of the forthcoming governorship election.
He said NURTW has a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on transportation of election materials.
“Most importantly, we have an MoU with INEC. Yesterday I was at INEC on the instruction of our union’s national president. “In light of this, we have to inaugurate the caretaker committee to oversee the leadership of the NURTW pending the resolution of all issues in Osun,” he stated.
The caretaker committee has Kazeem Oyewale as chairman, Sunday Oludare as secretary, Lukman Ahmed as treasurer, and Ismaila Abdurahim, Adebayo Tajudin, Tajudin Akin and Ayinde Mutiu as members.
Ore said the committee would take care of the union’s affairs in Osun till the leadership crisis was resolved.
In his acceptance address, Oyewale vowed to re-position the union and ensure strict obedience to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and that of the NURTW.
“We will take the union to the next level. There will be a change in the administration of the union and we would function fully according to the Constitution of Nigeria and that of the NURTW,” he said.
