Super Falcons striker Esther Okoronkwo accused housekeeping staff at the Morocco hotel where the team tented ahead of Women’s Africa Cup of Nations of taking cash from the players’ rooms.
Okoronkwo made the charges in a series of Snapchat posts Wednesday, explaining how the alleged crimes were uncovered and how hotel management reacted.
Saturday PUNCH says that the money went missing when the players were out of their rooms and the cleaners came in to straighten up, Okoronkwo stated in the posts.
Before the team’s departure to Rabat for their Group C fixtures, Nigeria had been camped at a hotel in Casablanca as part of preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
The cleaning people stole the money. So they waited for us to leave the room to clean up and steal the money,” she wrote in one post.
She asked teammates and followers to “write bad reviews” of the hotel.
It was $500 taken from her belongings, Okoronkwo first said, before correcting herself.
“Guys I did my calculations wrong, they actually stole 700 USD not 500,” she tweeted, with a picture of teammates in the hotel.
She named numerous more squad members she felt were affected.
A teammate described as Hali (Halimatu Ayinde) had $100 stolen, another player, Osi (Asisat Oshoala), also lost $100, while a participant identified as Joy (Joy Omewa) had £120 stolen, according to her posts.
A further unidentified quantity was taken from a teammate, she alleged.
The team approached hotel workers over the missing money, but got no clear answer, she added.
We started chatting to them and they don’t have any answers. “They also began to be disrespectful,” she wrote.
Okoronkwo claimed that after she reported the situation, the front desk workers seemed unbothered, noting that neither of them seemed to be bothered by the report.
She ended the posts with a stern warning to potential guests, calling her experience at the hotel terrible and accusing its personnel of stealing from guests.

The hotel and the Nigeria Football Federation were both unavailable for comment on the allegations at the time of filing this report.
