A man, Jameed, has taken his wife, Tawakalitu, before Grade A Customary Court sitting in Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State demanding dissolution of their marriage over alleged infidelity, abuse, violence, neglect and destructive behaviour.
The plaintiff said that his wife had no regard for him and usually left their home without his agreement sometimes even for as long as a week without reporting her whereabouts, Saturday Tribune writes.
Jameed further said that Tawakalitu had extramarital encounters and spoke to her alleged partners on phone in his presence without any consideration for his sentiments.
He said the defendant was living an extravagant lifestyle and neglecting her home responsibilities.
He gave an example of her spending their children’s school fees on unnecessary things.
He also accused her of always leaving their home dirty and untidy creating discomfort to the family.
He also claimed the court his wife was a bad cook.
He stated that despite providing her N60,000 monthly for food, she only made one meal a day, leaving him and their children hungry on multiple occasions.
Jameed also said Tawakalitu told their 15-year-old daughter she was “ripe enough” to start sleeping with men and that the girl told him about the conversation.
He also claimed his wife had assaulted him on several occasions when he had challenged her about her behaviour.
He said that she had hit him across the face with her shoe heel and left him permanently scarred.
The suit also asserted that Tawakalitu then began trashing his possessions.
He said that after he sent her out of his home and remarried, she continued to come his house and office to assault him and vandalise his property.
Jameed prayed the court to terminate the marriage, give him custody of their children and stop the defendant from threatening him or infringing on his privacy.
Tawakalitu was not in court after being allegedly served with court summons.
Giving evidence, Jameed stated “I married my wife under native law and customs and paid N5,000 as her bride price.
“My marriage failed because she is irresponsible and has no virtues.
“Her infidelity was now on the table and she even had the audacity to call her lovers and talk to them in my presence without considering my feelings.
‘There were instances when she would leave home without my permission and she would be gone for a week or so and not notify anyone where she was.
“She was always leaving our house dirty and untidy and it was an uncomfortable house to live in.
“We gave her N60,000 every month for food but she neglected and starved our children. She was a really bad cook and only cooked once a day.
“One day I came home from work earlier than usual and found our children doing dishes at a canteen.
“They said their mother brought them there to work and they were given food after they washed the plates.
I asked her about it and she said she wanted them to learn domestic tasks.
“My Lord, later our daughter aged 15 told me her mother said she was ripe enough to sleep with males.
“My wife was violent too. She always attacked me with whatever she could get her hands on. She once slapped me across the face with her heel and I still have the scar to prove it.
At last I sent her away, and married another woman, for I could no longer bear her attitude.
“Despite that she still came to my house and office to fight me and ruin my things.
“My Lord, I am tired of her attitude.
“I am asking this honourable court to dissolve our marriage, grant me custody of our children because she is a bad influence on them and restrain her from threatening me or invading my privacy,” politely.
The court president, Mrs S.M. Akintayo, adjourned the matter after listening to the evidence of the plaintiff.
