The Director General, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu has congratulated the Nigerian Army for creating a safe and conducive environment for Corps Members and NYSC formations nationwide.
The DG made the remark during a courtesy visit to the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division, Nigerian Army, Jos, Major General Folusho Oyinlola.
He also stated that the Scheme cannot wax strong in an unsafe environment, saying that the success of the NYSC depends mainly on the safe and tranquil environment created by the country’s security services.
He congratulated the Division for always meeting its obligations, noting that the NYSC has never had to call off the commencement of an Orientation Course in any state under the Division’s domain due to security issues.
Currently, more than 7,000 Corps Members are serving in Plateau State and making substantial contributions to the socio-economic development of the state through their various sites of primary assignment, the Director General said.
He said the NYSC, from its foundation has continued to promote national unity, integration and social cohesion through inter-tribal marriages, cultural interaction and chances for youth empowerment and job creation.
General Nafiu also spoke on the Scheme’s services to the health and education sectors through the posting of Corps doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals to hospitals and teachers to public schools across the country.
“We solicit for your continued support in giving us an enabling environment to effectively discharge our mandate.
The Director General also said that the Scheme was undergoing adjustments to enhance operational efficiency and service performance.
In his remarks, the 3 Division GOC, Major General Folusho Oyinlola, complimented the DG for the amazing initiatives and achievements documented since he assumed office as the Chief Executive of the Service Corps.
He said the Director General is a deserving ambassador of the Nigerian Army. He also complimented the NYSC Plateau State Coordinator, members of staff and Corps Members for their dedication and great performance in the discharge of their statutory tasks.
“Like it or not, there are a lot of testimonies of NYSC’s positive impact. “Carry on the good work and I am sure you will take the Scheme to greater heights,” urged the GOC.
General Oyinlola reiterated the resolve of the 3 Division, Nigerian Army to ensure safety and security of Corps Members working in its area of duty at all times.
