Adebanjo Samuel, an officer of a security firm based in Lagos, has been lauded for showing high level of integrity by returning a customer’s lost $9,100 while on duty at a First City Monument Bank branch in Marina, Lagos.
The incident which occurred on May 25, 2026, was confirmed in a statement issued by the Proton Security Service Limited Wednesday, The PUNCH reports.
The business said Adebanjo’s action had further increased confidence in the discipline, professionalism and integrity of staff deployed across its client sites.
“Adebanjo has been hailed as a real hero showing that something wonderful can still come out of here,” the statement said in part.
The corporation would pay honour to the operative for his conduct, it said.
“To recognise this remarkable conduct, Proton Security has announced that it will host a special civic reception at its corporate headquarters.
Adebanjo will be officially celebrated and honoured for his excellent demonstration of integrity during the occasion. Colleagues, family members and friends, as well as industry stakeholders and media representatives will attend the event to celebrate a great act of honesty,” the statement added.
Reacting to the development, Managing Director of Proton Security Service Limited, Odebunmi Adekunmi, said Adebanjo’s conduct was a proud moment for the organization and a vindication of its ethical values.
This act of honesty is in keeping with the ideals on which our organization was founded and the standards we expect from each and every person of our workforce,” he said.
“Adebanjo has shown that professionalism is not just about doing what you are asked to do but making the right decisions when no one is watching. “His behaviour has been exemplary and has reflected well on himself, his family, our organisation and the security profession in general.”
Adebanjo said he was honoured by the award, but stressed his decision was based on principle and not the amount involved.
“It’s not the quantity, it’s the philosophy,” he remarked. I was raised to be honest and to do what is right, no matter what. Even if it had been a great deal more I would have returned it. I think integrity is something that should never be compromised.
“I am grateful to Proton Security for the training and values that guide us each and every day. This acknowledgement motivates me to continue doing the right thing and reaffirms my opinion that honesty is one of life’s greatest values. “I hope my experience inspires others to always choose the path of integrity, whatever the circumstances.”
Olabisi Familusi, Director, Business Development and Strategy, Proton Security Service Limited, also spoke, saying the organisation’s standards of honesty remain unwavering.
The statement said Adebanjo’s conduct reflected the professionalism and trust that were hallmarks of the company’s operations and reinforced the company’s reputation in Nigeria’s private security business.
“Beyond the praise of a person, Proton Security takes into account the importance of this deed to go far more.
This symbolic act can boost Nigeria’s confidence globally and send the proper message to the expanding population of young Nigerians that integrity pays and its reward is everlasting.
“Adebanjo’s story is a timeless reminder of the strength of character, demonstrating that while circumstances may test values, it is integrity that ultimately defines legacy.”
