The Gombe State Police Command has recovered a cache of munitions concealed close to a cemetery in the Yamaltu Deba Local Council of the state.
The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, said in a statement that the items were recovered along Kalshingi Road near a cemetery at Kwadon
“Our officers, acting on credible intelligence, about 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, of a suspicious bag hidden under a tree, recovered 119 rounds of live 7.62mm ammunition hidden inside a sack,” he said.
Other goods seized at the scene included two empty ammo sacks, two bottles carrying moringa seeds and one green bag, officials added.
Security agents investigated the neighboring bush and other regions, but no suspect was caught, Abdullahi said.
The military has increased patrols and surveillance in the area, he said, adding that investigations are underway to identify and apprehend individuals responsible for hiding the ammunition.
Two members of a 10-man armed robbery gang have been caught inside a hotel in Benin City after they allegedly robbed residents of the Ugbor neighborhood.
The suspects were identified as Mustapha Haruna and Abdulahi Abdulrahman.
The gang is accused of stealing a number of iPhones, Samsung phones, multiple computers, a JBL speaker, a power bank and an undisclosed quantity of cash. Many of the stolen items were found with the arrested individuals inside the hotel.
Confirming the incident, the Edo State Police Command spokesperson, Eno Ikoedem said police attached to the Ugbor Police Station conducted a manhunt and tracked the suspects to the hotel after the heist was reported.
